Dentistry Done Differently

A bridge is used to replace a missing tooth or teeth.

It is a strong and stable solution to fill gaps in your teeth, restoring function and appearance.

When you lose a tooth, it can cause discomfort and problems when eating and might affect your confidence. We offer a number of solutions to replace missing teeth with natural-looking, resilient prosthetic alternatives.

If you require a traditional dental bridge, crowns will be placed on the teeth adjacent to the gap. The prosthetic or false tooth will then be placed into the gap and will be supported by the crowns. Once these restorations are fitted into the mouth, they will be fixed with a special adhesive for a permanent result.

Other types of bridges include:

  • A cantilever bridge, which is held in place by one natural tooth instead of two.
  • A resin-bonded bridge which is bonded to the supporting teeth via a metal framework.
  • Bridges can be made of metal or porcelain and will be created specifically for you in our laboratory.

Benefits of Bridges

Your dentist will give you all the advice and information needed prior to the fitting of a bridge. There are a number of benefits to a dental bridge, including:

  • Replaces a missing tooth to enhance function and appearance.
  • Long lasting and durable.
  • Natural appearance and feel.
  • Subtle and unnoticeable.

Reducing our impact on the environment

At St Mawes Dental, we believe we can work together to preserve the resources of the planet, use products and materials which respect the environment and contribute to environmental protection above and beyond our operation.

TOXIN REDUCTION

We aim to be an ‘amalgam-free’ practice and are committed to lower the environmental impact from the use of industrial mercury, which is a constituent of dental amalgam fillings.

SAFE USE & DISPOSAL OF CHEMICALS

We have special equipment such as safe filters in our suction and waste pipes to minimise our patient’s exposure to mercury when old dental metal fillings have to be taken out.

ENERGY CONSERVATION

In every area of our practice we have embraced the latest technology and installed the latest heating, insulation and energy recycling processes to significantly lower the energy consumption of the practice.
